REACTION: Bills sign Percy Harvin

By Steve

A one year deal for Percy Harvin is palatable even if he is an asshole. The money is yet unknow but my guess is something like $3.5 million with incentives.

Ha per http://t.co/JXOZaOk4Qi Percy Harvin still counts 6.47 mil against the Jets cap this season after his 6 year $64 million deal with seattle 2 years ago. Thus I think he'll come some what cheap.

Granted Harvin hasn't produced much since then (20 starts and only 6 TDs in the last 3 seasons total) but thats he beauty of a 1 year deal.

This is a prove it contract clearly. He is only 26 and has already flamed out with THREE teams. So presumably he'll be on his best behavior in hopes of another big contract next year.

The way that the Bills will use Harvin is the most interesting aspect of this move. Im thinking Randell Cobb esque. He is an inch taller and at least as fast. Does Greg Roman have any idea what he's doing?

All in all im coming around on this move. Low risk high reward unless the Bills way over paid. The guy is a locker room cancer ALLEGEDLY but again should have incentive to stfu and be a good soldier. We'll see but lets hope this doesnt take away touches from Sam Watkins and instead augments his production by causing havoc over the middle.

The Bills and Free Agency

By steve

Free agency in the NFL starts today errr last week err officially this Tuesday. The Bills have a lot of holes and something like $15 million to spend. Basically one big move or 3-4 medium sized moves. Wait, still with me?

Bills needs:
1. Tight end
2. Guard
3. Defensive end
4. Safety
5. Linebacker
6. Wide Receiver

The biggest question (besides why the hell would you TRADE for a shitty back up QB) is whether or not you resign Jerry Hughes. The answer is clear, maybe.

Will he take 5 years $44 million? He made his name in Buffalo after being cast off as a bust in a trade from Indy but this is his one BIG pay day. There is no reason for him to sign with the Bills before Tuesday. My guess is some team will over pay him. Oh well, find another DE for half the price and 70% of his production, isn't that why you have Rex Ryan?

The Bills should pursue one of the big free agent tightends. Julius Thomas might be a product of a great offense and will be expen$ive. But there are a few TEs right below him that will be worth pursuing. Will Jordan Cameron be cheap, Gresham might be a target.

No need to spend a lot of money on a guard like Mike Iupati. How did it work out for the Titans when they overpaid Andy Levitre? I can't tell you who to sign but only adding Incognito isn't satisfactory.

How about Derrick Morgan, Hakeem Nicks and Antrelle Rolle? I would have also went after Jake Locker instead of giving up anything just to trade for Matt Cassel but oh well.

This team needs some veterans that have won before. A cage cheap ol' vet or two will be worth it. Isnt Rex a players coach and a guy that players want to play for? We'll see.

Oh and not resigning Da'norris Searcy last season was a mistake. Now he's gonna get paid!

REACTION: Bills Trade Kiko Alonso for Shady McCoy

By Steve

The Bills traded 3rd year linebacker Kiko Alonso straight up for running back Lesean McCoy. On paper it is a meaningless position for a meaningless. But in reality it is very interesting.

There are a few pros and cons to this trade so lets break it down from the Bills perspective:

Naturally Im starting with the cons.

1. Shady is a malcontent. He is a weird dude and (like every player ever) is pissed about being traded to the Bills.  There are already rumors he wont report or will want a contract extention. IF ANYTHING THE BILLS WILL WANT A RESTRUCTURE.

2. Shady has a cap hit of $10 mil this year ($7.2 in 2016 and $7.9 in 2017). Any team paying this much to a running back is obsurd. It was a clear salary dump by the Eagles.

3. McCoy is on the wrong side of 26. Statistically, running backs begin to fall off a cliff after 26. Not to mention he only had 5 TDs last year and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Ouch.

4. Chip Kelly is more successful and smarter than anyone currently employed by the Bills. Who do you give the benefit of the doubt to... Chip or Doug Whaley, Russ Brandon and Rex Ryan. Really?

5. Kiko Alonso is young, cheap, had a great rookie season and was a fan favorite. Yes he is replaceable but he was a play maker at LB right away which is not easy.

Okokok lets look at the Pros

1. Shady is a playmaker. He is one of the more dynamic players in the NFL. He is confident, shifty and explosive. And he doesnt have asshat loser coaches Marrone and Hackett to bring him down.

2. The Bills wont overdraft a RB in the draft this year. Running backs are a dime a dozen and drafting one in the 2nd round was my nightmare.

3. It fills a "need". Lol just kidding why did the Bills use a 4th round draft pick on Bryce Brown last year?

4. The Bills can easily replace Kiko Alonso who allegedly wanted out of Buffalo any way. The Bills had a great defense last year without the twice ACL torn ILB and dont have to worry about those rickity knees any longer. What are they really losing out on?

Bottom line is this. If Shady is ready to play here then it will be a good-ish trade. The money is way too much but the talent is there. The Bills had cap space and needed a running back with a glut of talent at LB. Just dont piss Shady off.
