Lebron James still sucks

by Steve

Opps, told ya so. I'm going to repost what I wrote last week for you all to reread.

"It took Michael Jordan seven years to win his first title. True. But has Bron bron been playing against players like Kareem, Bird, Magic, Dumars, Worthy, and Thomas? No, he isn't. Lebron "king" James is playing against players like Rashard Lewis, Turkoglu and Reddick.

Lebron James is the most over hyped over rated player in the history of professional basketball. He has continually won nothing while being portrayed as one of the best players to ever participate in profession athletics. The dude is more worried about selling car insurance and cell phones than he is about his performance against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bron Bron the "king" has continuously NOT made his team mates better and continuously loses in the playoffs. True he never went to college so he probably isn't all that smart. But still shouldn't he be showing something other than an ability to defraud an entire city and win basically nothing?

It is plausible they climb out of the 2-1 hole they are currently in and he proves that the first three games of the series against the Orland Magic were a fluke, but the likelihood is slim. More possible is the idea that Bron bron isn't all that good, is over hyped by a desperate association looking for the next big star because Kobe hasn't lived up to his early billing.

He will continue to get all the calls, score 40+ points and lose when it counts the most. Lebron James has failed to win a championship for yet another year and is starring at one more year till free agency. Whether he leaves Cleveland or not, he will still be considered a loser by me until he ya know, actually wins something. My guess is he will continue to present a facade/aura of greatness while actually being an above average player looking to exploit as much media attention (think money) and adulation while cashing out BIG TIME in 2010.

The best part about this post is it makes me look like Nostradamus. The second best part is this comment from that post from "anonymous:

It makes sense why you never make any posts about the NBA; you're clueless. Stick to other stuff, like how you think the Bills' draft picks will pan out and how much you hate Darcy Regier and Larry Quinn. At least those are topics you know something about.

The only thing I agree with you about is that it's a different game now than it was when Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem, etc. were playing - less physical now, more parity (and the officiating is worse than ever). LeBron James has done more with less talent around him than any of those past players you mentioned. You disagree, give a rebuttal. He plays with Anderson Varejao, Mo Williams, and a past-his-prime Ben Wallace. The guys from the past were all great players, but their supporting cast included guys like Pippen, McHale, Worthy, genuine stars in their own right, just not as good as the main men. Also, the Orlando series is far from over so don't stick a fork in them yet. Take a look at the Game 3 stats...he had 26 more points than the second highest scorer on his team, but also accounted for 9 of the team's 17 assists. Give the guy some help.
How about four points in the fourth quarter of a deciding game? In what world would MJ have done that? Maurice Williams and Deonte West both outscored 'the king' in the fourth quarter. There was a four minute stretch where the Cavs scored two points in the middle of the fourth. Where was his greatness during this run? The only thing I'll grant the Cavs lovers is Hedo Turkoglu turned into Irk out of no where. I just find it a little interesting James scored nearly half of what he was averaging in the biggest game of his career thus far. But hey, by all means, buy into the hype if you must.

Pisa signs with the bears

God damn it, wtf. Either Russ and co. really just didn't like this guy, they have other options or they are completely 100% delusional in thinking that Ellison is sufficient at either strong or weak side linebacker. Holy moley lets hope that is not the case or else this franchise is more doomed than I thought. Anyone know who Derrick Brooks agent is? I assume Russ has been texting him non stop.

per kffl.com

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent LB Pisa Tinoisamoa (Rams) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. He also reports Chicago Bears LB Pisa Tinoisamoa is expected to be the leading candidate for the starting strongside linebacker job this season.

Why is Chris Kelsay still a Buffalo Bill?

by Steve

After reading this Buffalo news story about Chris Kelsay one can not come to any other conclusion other than Kelsay needs to be cut/traded ASAP. The dude is garbage. Even without Maybin on the team or the idea that he could conceivably be a bust isn't a deterrent to cutting him. Kelsay isn't worth what he is making. How much is he making you ask?

Kelsay has been paid $2.875 million per sack the last two seasons. PER SACK! For those with porous mathskills (he has four sacks total since the '07 signing) he is making $5.75 mil a year after signing for four years $23 million after the '06 campaign. Done cleaning the puke off your keyboard/crackberry? Alright take a few more minutes...

"I think it's the expectation that people put on the game and our position," Kelsay said of his critics. "Do I think they're wrong? No, because I could be thinking the same thing if I were in their shoes. I would be expecting a guy who is drafted fairly high or a guy who gets a big, lucrative contract to be productive in the sacks area, so I really can't criticize them for criticizing me."

Glad you think that Chris, cause we're not wrong. No defensive end gets paid that much money and is not NOT expected to have a high sack count. The real criticism should be lobbed at the Bills, who have allowed this travesty of a football player to remain on the roster. According to Allen Wilson the Bills have denied the rumors that they were looking to move Kelsay.

"I've tried to earn everything I've gotten in this league and I'll continue to do that as long as I'm here. As long as you give all-out effort on every play and do everything you can do to help the team get better and have success, what more can you really ask?"

What should be asked is for you to hire a real estate agent and rent a Uhaul. Peace out bro, hopefully I won't be seeing you come September 14th in Foxboro.

Michael Vick a Buffalo Bill?

by Steve

I'm not just talking hypothetically. People (Mike Florio) thinks it is a realistic possibility.

The Bills want to win. Now. Whether it’s because owner Ralph Wilson is feeling a Leon Hess-style sense of urgency or whether coach Dick Jauron feels a Rich Kotite-style sense of urgency or a combination of both, the Bills are going all in.

They offered receiver Terrell Owens $6.5 million guaranteed at a time when no one else was willing to pay him $6.50.

And a league source tells us that the Bills made a very aggressive play for defensive end Jason Taylor immediately after Taylor was cut in March by the Redskins. In fact, the Bills were the very first team to pursue Taylor.

As to the potential backlash from signing Vick, consider the fans’ reaction to the arrival of T.O.

He’s already gotten the key to the freaking city.

So if any team can sell this transaction to their fans, it’s the Bills.

The other possibility, in our view, is Cincinnati. But not because the Bengals believe they could surive the local P.R. onslaught. The Bengals would potentially be interested in Vick because they don’t care about the P.R. onslaught.

First off, Florio with these crazy opinions usually is way off. Just search for his mock draft in April(yikes). Second, Jauron hopefully has no say on getting players like Owens, Vick, Taylor etc. Dude is lost. His football acumen is close to zero. Who would listen to that dude? Not even old man Ralphie.

Third, Vick isn't good. He was good three years ago, no way he is good right now. He wouldn't make the Bills better in 2009. Fourth, the Bills coaching staff would never be able to use Vick in a way that would realize the full potential of MV's skill set. They have no idea what they're doing. (case data: Losman, J.P.)

I wouldn't be as shocked as when we signed Terrell Owens, but thats only because it was the most shocking thing the Bills could have done. Either way, I have a tough time believing that Roger will even reinstate Vick after he's completed his sentence in two months. That in and of itself makes the whole conversation moot.

Owens taking over everything in Buffalo

This is funny though. Key to the city? Not so much, at least not yet, what has he done?

T.O. getting a key to the city of Buffalo

by Steve

Are we serious?????

At the time of this posting... a crowd has gathered at Buffalo-Niagara International Airport awaiting the arrival of Terrell Owens.

As it turns out, it's been quite a wait indeed. Owens was origially due in at 6:15, then 9:15, and after a day of delays and missed flights, we're told by a VH1 representative that he'll be touching down just after 11:30pm.

A crowd has gathered at the airport... fans with faces painted... just to catch a glimpse of Owens as he arrives.

VH1 has the cameras ready to shoot a portion of Owens reality show.

Tomorrow afternoon Mayor Byron Brown will present him with a key to the City of Buffalo.

Notice we haven't even talked football yet?

That's right... the fanfare surrounds simply the start of the Bills voluntary workouts. Owens says he'll be there when they hit the field for the first time Monday morning at 10:30.

There are a handful of stars in sports that command the attention of Owens, and we're still four months away from when the games start for real.

Bills receiver Roscoe Parrish says he welcomes Owens with open arms.

"Heard a lot about TO, heard he is one of the hardest working guys in the NFL, he's a future hall of fame, I'm still young and I can learn a lot from him and take it from there.''

Running back Fred Jackson says Owens should instantly make the Bills offense better.

"Nobody is more happy than I am about TO being here, it's going to take a lot of pressure off the running game, safeties are not going to be able to stand in the box like they were last year, to combine him with Lee is going to do some tremendous things for our offense.''

That process starts Monday with the first of 11 volunatry [sic] team workouts. The Bills mandatory mini-camp is set for June 9-11.

We're giving him a key to the city? There are people waiting for him at the airport? People have their faces painted at the air port? Damn..

the Buffalo Bungals

by Steve

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFF. Another arrest? Wait make that two if you are counting the whole Buffalo Bills family. Bruce Smith got nailed for his third DWI arrest (although he beat the rap on the first two) AND McIntyre is caught jerkin it in front of a 59 year old woman at 8:30 am? That clearly wins as the weirdest arrest thus far.

Time for a time line I a reckon:

January 2, 2009
Ko Simpson arrested, hindering police investigation.
“I’m Ko Simpson with the Buffalo Bills,” he said, according to the police report. “I am worth millions.”

February 11, 2009
Marshawn Lynch, felony gun possession.
Culver City Police Officers were patrolling the Fox Hills area of Culver City when they contacted three male adults seated in a 2006 Mercedes Benz

March 20, 2009
Corey McIntyre, masturbating in public
Faces a misdemeanor exposure of sexual organs charge following the March 20 incident in Port St. Lucie.

April 11, 2009
Donte Whitner tased in C-town
a brawl erupted outside the club at about 3 a.m. As off-duty officers tried to restore order, Whitner aggressively forced his way into an area where he was told not to go. Officers temporarily restrained him before he broke free and squared off to fight.

May 16, 2009
Bruce Smith, third DUI arrest
This marks the third time the 11-time Pro Bowl selection has been arrested on suspicion of DUI, having avoided charges in both 1997 and 2003.

These don't even count Parrish and Lynch in 2008. This is just the first 5 months of 2009!

Lynch appealing suspension

Doubt he'll win it, but if he could knock off at least one game that would be solid.

In the wake of being suspended without pay for the opening three games of the regular season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Buffalo Billsrunning back Marshawn Lynch has formally appealed the punishment, according to the Associated Press.

Of course, any discipline appeals involving violations of the league’s personal conduct policy are considered extremely tough to win considering that Goodell is the ultimate arbiter of said appeals.

The violation Lynch was punished for stems from a guilty plea for a misdemeanor gun charge in Southern California.

A year ago, Lynch managed to escape league discipline following a hit-and-run incident in Buffalo’s bar district.

This time, Lynch acknowledged that he expected to be punished by Goodell.

The timing of Lynch’s appeal is somewhat ironic. It was formally filed one day after Bills running back Fred Jackson signed his contract extension, but it’s unclear if the timing is a mere coincidence.

Jackson is expected to start in place of Lynch when/if he serves his suspension.

Bills and Tinoisamoa talking contract

Bills about to ink a new linebacker?

Free agent linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa visited with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, and according to sources familiar with the visit, the Bills brass was “very impressed” with Tinoisamoa and the feeling was mutual. The two sides are now trying to work on a contract before Tinoisamoa leaves town, and contemplates his second visit.

The Bills need a linebacker. A linebacker is in Buffalo. He is better than Keith Ellison. Why not. Pisa is 6'1 allegedly 240 lbs

Linebacker Tinoisomoa in to visit the Bills

Former St Louis LB Tinoisomoa will be visiting the Bills Wednesday.

True he isn't Derrick Brooks, and is a weak side linebacker, but anything is better than Keith "I suck at life" Ellison..

The Buffalo Bills are bringing in linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa for an interview Wednesday, and a source familiar with the trip believes the tackling machine is particularly excited about the opportunity.

Tinoisamoa led the Rams in tackles four of his six seasons. He recorded 135 last year, with three sacks and two forced fumbles.

But the Rams cut their former defensive captain last week mainly because new head coach Steve Spagnuolo likes bigger linebackers. Tinoisamoa is listed at 6-foot-1, 240 pounds. But St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Jim Thomas noted Tomoisamoa played at 220 pounds last year. The Rams also drafted Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis.

Bills coach Dick Jauron doesn't mind smaller, quicker linebackers. Tinoisamoa played the weak-side slot in the Rams' 4-3 defense, and the Bills happen to have a need there.

Keith Ellison is Buffalo's returning starter, but the Bills could do better than the former sixth-round pick. Ellison would make a fine backup at a position the Bills have lacked depth.

A linebacking corps with Paul Posluszny between Tinoisamoa and strong-side linebacker Kawika Mitchell doesn't sound too shabby.

Obligatory Sabres post

by Steve

Everyone knows about the well documented and abundantly evident fall of the Sabres since July 1st 2007. Chris and Danny packed their bags for MUCH greener pasture while the Sabres were sent out to pas.. the slaughter house. Two conclusions could have been drawn from the fiery and utter collapse of a franchise. First they would lose season ticket holders and second they would make drastic changes perhaps overhaul the entire team top to bottom, especially with two consecutive seasons of non playoff hockey (five of seven to be exact). Problem is as the past few days have shown, NEITHER IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

First you had Quinny going on the air last week basically saying the Sabres are going to zilch in the way of changes. He blames the player not the coach, but the problem isn't the specific players or their skill set, it is the simple fact that they are fully committed to Lindy's "successful" system (my words not his). He also doesn't believe the Sabres are too small. Both of those statements are incorrect. The players suck, they are too small, not talented enough and have no backbone to be successful in the playoffs. There is no one I wouldn't trade.

The second story was that 94% of season ticket holders have re-upped their seasons. I don't know if it is blind allegiance, a plethora of die hard Sabres fans (that didn't exist four years ago right after the lock out) or something else, but that is some what shocking. Is the economy in Buffalo better than the prognosticators of economics are leading us all to believe? More likely than not it is just a bunch of idiots from Amherst with daughters who love Pommers think Lindy is a great coach and Millsie is better than Roy circa 1993.

One last thing. Damn can Buffalo sports teams market them selves (save for the Bisons who love mascots and only mascots). I mean really. These teams are perennial losers and pack the building on a daily basis. To bad they aren't as skilled managers as they are marketers.

Bills ticket sales ahead of last year

• So much for the notion that a sagging economy and unpopular coach would hurt the Bills at the gate. I’m told the team has already sold 50,000 season tickets and is ahead of last year’s pace, when it sold 56,011. That was the second-most season tickets in history, behind the 1992 season.

Apparently, disgust over the team’s second-half collapse and disdain for Dick Jauron didn’t drive many people away. The Terrell Owens signing certainly had a big impact at the box office. The generally positive reaction to the team’s draft couldn’t have hurt.

Russ Brandon has a lot to prove as a football man, but he knows how to sell his product. Signing Owens was a marketing master stroke, and that, and the draft should help on the field, too. Just think how many tickets they’d sell if the Bills actually made the playoffs!

Holy shit, people are either obsessed with the Buffalo Bills like we are or people really love Terrel Owens. I'm not shocked by this but am surprised. The coach is a god damn travesty, there is little chance the team makes the playoffs(gonna be 10 years) and the schedule isn't great. Fuck it. goooooooooooo Bills BUFFALO BILLS..

Bills hot reads of the day

  • Looks like Roscoe Parrish is staying in Buffalo. According to Drew Rosenhouse's Twitter update, the Bills' dynamic punt returner is back practicing with Buffalo, rejoining his teammates to continue the offseason conditioning program.
  • Bills will have more 4 wides and split Nelson out. "the team has a tight end they feel can be an important part of the passing game (rookie Shawn Nelson), they will look to use much more spread-formations in their base offensive sets, using three wide receivers, plus splitting Nelson out as a 4th receiver, and only using one running back in the backfield. The source said the Bills may do this even when they do not a run a no-huddle. The Bills had incorporated a fullback into their offensive gameplan more often the past two seasons. Running more 4 wide, 1 RB sets would obviously mean there wouldn't be a FB on the field as often."
  • Kc Joyner hated our run blocking last year. "First, their overall offensive line run blocking totals were abysmal. Three of the Bills’ regular starters had a Point of Attack (POA) run block win percentage of under 80%. As I’ve detailed in previous posts, the 80% mark is the low-end acceptable total in this area, and Buffalo had only two linemen who were able to vault this bar"
  • Chris Brown's opinion of Levitre and Wood starting. " Five guys all in new places and three new faces on one offensive line is a lot to pull together even for hard working blue collar players like the ones Buffalo now has in the fold.In time I think it can be a great line, it just might take the first half of the season to really get it humming."
  • History of the Buffalo Bills dvd just out.

DT Wendal Bryant in for a visit

by Steve

The Bills brought in former first round pick DT Wendal Bryant, yes he was picked ahead of Haynesworth that year, yes he was addicted to drugs/alcohol, and yes he sounds eerily similar to Mike williams. Butt he is low risk high reward. Why not have him compete against Spencer Johnson and McCargo for a tackle spot.

Former Cardinals DT Wendell Bryant looking for NFL return (photo source)Aaron Wilson, a journalist for the Carroll County Times in Maryland and a contributor at Mike Florio's Pro Football Talk, is reporting that DT Wendell Bryant - a first-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2002 NFL Draft - recently held a tryout with the Buffalo Bills. (Tip of the hat to Rumbler 'gatornation' for informing us of this story here earlier this morning.)

Bryant, currently weighing in at 295 pounds and standing 6'4", was a standout performer at Wisconsin in college, amassing 24 sacks and 41 tackles for loss in his career with the Badgers. He was the No. 12 overall draft pick in 2002; the Cardinals chose him one spot after the Colts selected DE Dwight Freeney, three spots before the Titans selected DT Albert Haynesworth, and a whopping twelve spots before the Ravens chose S Ed Reed.

Bryant told Wilson that the Bills have not offered him a deal, but that he is "hoping for a chance" to join the team. Meanwhile, Bryant's agent, Marc Lillibridge, said: "He had a great workout for the Bills. They were very impressed."

  • Also Brent Fever has a meeting with Brad Childress this week. I love it. I hate the guy, but it is interesting. Him vs the over rated Packers is brilliant TV. And he gets to fuck up yet another NFL franchise.. Tarvaris Jackson?
  • Oh and I just realized the next pick behind us in the second round, the 49ers traded out and got a first round pick! There is a story they wanted Byrd, but who in their right mind wouldn't rather have a 2010 first round pick instead of Byrd at this point.
  • Foote signed with Detroit. Good, I didn't like him in a Bills uniform

Bills mini camp

here is some stuff from Chris Brown @ bb.com

Bills top pick Aaron Maybin on more than one occasion was taking a bit of a leadership role during the rookie minicamp this weekend. At times he’d be encouraging his defensive unit when it was their turn to go out on the field and rep plays. And each day after practice was over and coach Jauron would bring the team in, Maybin would huddle the group up and have some kind of pep talk to put a good cap on the day.

Granted he won’t be doing that when the whole roster is on hand with plenty of veterans to take on those responsibilities, but it’s encouraging nonetheless. And though Dick Jauron didn’t want to make too much of it he recognized it.

“It’s good that he does it,” said Jauron. ”It’s fine. Somebody has got to do it. It’s an interesting exercise. When you don’t name a person to address them or when you don’t address them and you see who does, I don’t judge one way or the other I just observe it, but I make note of it.”

By Chris Brown - Posted May 2nd, 2009

Just thought I’d pass along some of my notes from Saturday’s practice regarding some of the Bills draft choices.

Eric Wood is put together real well. The guy is not even in pads yet and he looks like he’d win most battles in the trenches in the NFL. The guy has done well in one-on-ones (no pads mind you) with fellow offensive linemen.

The linemen were doing some cut blocks in which they lunge out at an angle, leave their feet and throw their inside arm at the defensive lineman’s thigh. Wood was getting some major air and distance. Just a lot of power in that frame of his.

Andy Levitre is more of a technician. He likes to mix it up too, but he doesn’t have the same build as Wood. More squatty and square Levitre holds his own, but is real quick with his hands.

Shawn Nelson is very flexible. There have been several times where he’s had to twist behind his body to make a catch. He bends very well. He’s already made a few shoe top catches on the run. Coach Coiner is getting on him about sharpening up a few of his routes, but he’s been real smooth in the pass game.

Nic Harris is making a nice transition to LB. He has no problem handling coverage assignments. He’s got a lot of confidence in his ability to adapt mentally and physically to linebacker and this scheme is a perfect fit for a guy that runs as well as he does. Had a nice pass breakup in the morning practice today.

Cary Harris looks like he’s hurting. He put on some supportive knee pads today. Didn’t have a chance to ask him if his knees are bugging him, but he’s not running well. He gave up a long touchdown pass today, though he did have a pass breakup in the morning. It just seems like he’s fighting his way through practice.

Ellis Lankster hasn’t made any plays, but he runs well and looks like a decent cover man. I don’t know if that means he makes the roster, but he’s held his own here in this camp.

Jairus Byrd is a sharp tack. The guy is already directing his other DBs and linebackers somewhat pre-snap during 7-on-7 and team work. It’s clear that he’s on a higher level mentally in understanding the nuances of the game. Be nice if that translates into INTs.

Aaron Maybin showed his athleticism during individual position drills. Coach Bob Sanders was doing in pass tip drill, where the player first in line tips the pass and the second defensive linemen intercepts it (or tries to).

When Maybin was the second guy on the drill (the interceptor) he leaped up high and simply snatched the ball out of the air with one hand for the INT palming it like a basketball.
